We had just enough time to wander around the cemetery, watching the clouds roll in, and stop along the seawall before the rain started. It was fierce and fast and once it started we headed north.
It’s strange visiting a place that you’ve seen a million times on Instagram. And I don’t feel like that’s an exaggeration on the numbers when it comes to this spot.
Winter in Oklahoma is anything from warm and sunny to bitterly cold with snow flurries. Of course, if you wait five minutes it'll change.
The area gets it's name from the selenite gypsum in the ground, pieces catching the fading light like stardust, pieces of brightness caught by the earth.
I loved the foggy day, the mist rolling in from the Pacific, turning it all into softly focused nature.

At the base of the falls you can look up, into rushing water and sunlight, deafened by the roaring water.
Norman has a small town feel, maybe because of the collage, it seems that a lot of collage towns feel the same, but I always think of it as part of Oklahoma City for some reason.

We found this short loop off a scenic highway in Cameron Parish and even on an overcast rainy day we still saw a lot of wildlife.
I never get tired of visiting the Wichita Wildlife Refuge, no matter what time of year I go, it's always beautiful. And the view from the top of Mt. Scott will always be one of my favorites. But going in the spring is the best time. Everything is in bloom, the rolling hills and plains covered in yellow flowers and cacti with purple blossoms.
